HOW IT WORKS
When you are in need of an FBI background check:
1. Call BGI and set up and appointment for processing (We also accept walk-ins and late evening and weekend appointments)
2. Arrive with a Government Issued photo ID
3. We will obtain 2 FBI FD258 fingerprint cards
4. We will process your FBI background check application
5. We will submit your fingerprints, documents and application for processing.
Instead of paying for the fingerprinting, postage for mailing and the FBI background separately, you pay BGI one fee and we take care of everything.

When will you need an FBI background check?
Work / Student Visa: Students studying abroad in internships will be required to turn in a FBI criminal history report for visa approval clearance. Workers are required to obtain a special work visa and will be required to turn in a FBI criminal history report also.
Foreign Residency Travel: If you will live and work in another country they will require your police clearance certificate. (FBI background checks)
To Adopt a Child: To qualify for international adoption you will be required to turn in a police clearance certificate. (FBI background check)
Personal Review: Many people who are going into employment fields requiring in depth background checks will first run their own FBI check to make there are no discrepancies.
Challenge Information on criminal history report: If you have reason to believe you may have a conviction on your criminal history that is not from you or a conviction that was supposed to be removed, you will first need to confirm this by running your own FBI background check.

Employer Responsibility

CAUTION:
Simply locating a criminal conviction is not enough to eliminate an employment candidate. While you may eliminate an applicant based on previous criminal convictions you must follow a set of criteria to make sure you are not in violation Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The EEOC mandates that the employer develops a targeted screen, considering at least the nature of the crime, the time elapsed, and the nature of the job.
The EEOC also states convictions must be validated.
